Fire Island Pines New York
OUR HISTORY
Coming to the Pines on Fire Island and leaving the rest of the world "behind" is a strong sentiment of our visitors here.

Once you get on the Ferry in Sayville and head across the Great South Bay, you seem to enter another world where the hustle and bustle of New York City is traded for the wooden boardwalks, rolling sand dunes, grazing deer, and a remarkably friendly inclusive world with no cars, traffic, or rudeness.

Our Pines community on Fire Island is a "gay" destination known all over the world. It has had residents including Calvin Klein, David Geffen, Tommy Tune, Perry Ellis, Henry Fonda, Truman Capote (who wrote Breakfast at Tiffiny's here), and many more. It has a rich history for the gay, lesbian, and designer communities, and the dreamers who are on their way. The roots of disco, line dancing and "house party music" got their start here. The 4th of
July celebration is famous for its "Invasion" of the Pines where over 300 drag queens invade from Cherry Grove to kick off a huge party followed by fireworks on the bay. The world famous "Fire Island Dance Festival" in July brings some of the best dance troupes of the world together as a fund raiser hosted by the likes of Whoopi Goldberg, Bruce Vilanchi, Bebe Neuwirth, and Ana Gasteyer just to name a few. We have world class performances at our community center each summer. There are spectacular all night dance parties on the beach including the Pines Party (first ever circuit party), Accension, Dancing on the Bay, and many others where thousands of all ages stomp and swirl under the stars to the rolling waves and gentle breezes. There is a vibrant night life each summer in the Pines and Cherry Grove (a short walk from us) that seduces all who venture out.

We have about 600 houses in the Pines and most are rented as "shares" during the summer to thousands of mostly young men from the New York area that pack the boats each Friday to escape the city. From beach bungalows, to stunning ocean-side architectural summer homes, the designs are as varied as is the community demographics. Everyone feels at home.

All are welcomed at Pines Bluff Overlook, we are very straight friendly. We've had a number of writers, artists, and photographers stay and do work from here. A number of New York Times bestsellers have been edited at our dining table and Tony award winning plays choreographed. We also have a strong following of guests from overseas who are primarily from Europe and Australia.
